- Past / 2010 -
(Set during the events of IM2) While Tony Stark constructs a plan to rid himself of the palladium poisoning that was slowly killing him, he finds out that he had actually made a device that ultimately teleports one fallen God to Earth.
Loki, having been lost in the abyss he had went through, ends up greeting this mortal and grants his wish to live... but there's a catch. Tony becomes indebted to Loki, put under a spelled contract. If he wants to continue to live, Tony would have to show Loki that he is a worthy opponent. Should Tony fail to uphold his end of the bargain, the palladium poisoning will return once more to finish him off for good.
Just before Loki casts his magic however, he tells Tony that he will not have any recollection of their meeting or of the deal that was made. (Which is why he doesn't remember Loki in The Avengers).
- Present / 2013 -
(After the events of The Avengers) Tony is disturbed by dreams of New York and of falling... not just through the portal but of a different kind, one he should not have any memory of.
- Flashback / 1891 -
When Loki fell through the abyss, which caused him to travel through certain pockets of time. At one point he falls to Midgard during the late 18th century, London. Although consumed with hatred for the humans, he decides to disguise himself as one of them so that he can regain his strength. He does this by giving certain mortals the ability to use magic against other innocents. With each death comes power and he enjoys seeing humans demoralize each other from a distance without getting his hands dirty.
However a consulting detective by the name of Sherlock Holmes seeks him out and manages to find the evidence that leads him to Loki, enough to get him imprisoned. He lets the poilce put him behind bars.
Sherlock comes to the prison to greet him, a man capable of deducing more than meets the eye. He tries to figure out who Loki is before he is executed for his crimes... That is until he realizes that he is not talking to a human at all. Loki becomes intrigued by Sherlock, who managed to not only figure out that he was not of this world but also because he had gotten through Loki's well-constructed mental walls.
Their meeting is short however as the abyss opens up once more without warning and drags Loki back inside, leaving Sherlock Holmes with unanswered questions.
- Now -
Tony starts to have anxiety attacks based not just on the events of his experiences in New York but also of Loki... He doesn't know why he keeps seeing flashes of the God in his mind's eye as Tony can't have possibly remembered seeing him until last year... But the sense of deja vu is still there, reminding him that not everything is as it appears.
Plagued with memories of a man that looks exactly like him, Tony decides to investigate further. He later finds out that Sherlock Holmes, a man he thought was a fiction, had actually existed... and then he remembers everything.
- Flashback -
Sherlock uses one of Loki's spells to verify as to whether it is really magic and true. He does this so he can prove that it doesn't exist but contrary to what he'd like to believe, magic responds to his blood. Unknowingly, he calls Loki back inside his temporary trance.
Loki, having been called into his 'dream', is curious as to why he was summed by Sherlock. But he quickly realizes Sherlock had used one of his spells to bring him there. While he is shocked to find that Sherlock has magic within him, he is now also determined to know why - out of any magical soul that could have performed this ritual - it just so happened to be the good detective. However, the connection breaks and he is thrown back through the abyss once more. Sherlock wakes up in a daze, having seen both Loki and perplexing visions of his own face - but not entirely his to call - within the dream.
- Near Future -
Meanwhile, Loki watches on live television as Tony's Malibu mansion is being hit by missiles from intruders.
